Lime render is breathable and flexible, allowing moisture to evaporate from within the wall. Cement is hard and impermeable - on older buildings it traps moisture, causing damp, spalling and long-term structural damage. For any pre-1920s property, lime is almost always the correct material.
Any works to a listed building require listed building consent. We're experienced in working within heritage guidelines and can advise on what's likely to be acceptable. You should always consult your local conservation officer before committing to works.
Properly applied lime render is extremely durable - many traditional renders have survived hundreds of years. The key is using the right mix and allowing adequate drying time between coats. We never rush the process.
Yes - matching existing finishes is a core part of what we do, particularly on listed buildings and period properties. We assess the original material before mixing to achieve as close a match as possible in colour, texture and composition.
